Boaters and beachgoers between Jacksonville Beach and Cape Canaveral may spot the 75-foot vessel Lady Lisa working what may appear o be illegal nets in near-shore waters. However, it is a research
vessel, operated by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, athering information about a variety of coastal species for state and ederal science projects, including one on sea turtles.
The Lady Lisa's operations in Florida waters sometimes prompt observers to report it for violation of net restrictions. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is aware of the vessel's operations, which will begin Tuesday off Jacksonville Beach. The ship will proceed working south to Cape Canaveral and then back to south of St. Augustine.
