Many Vessels Being Inspected by Federal Authorities in Georgia Coastal Waters

We have just put up two postings on the Salty Southeast Cruisers' Net's "Georgia" page which will be of GREAT interest to anyone now cruising along the Georgia coastline.

Apparently. both the Georgia DNS (Department of Natural Resources) and ICE (Federal Customs) are inspecting a whole passel of boats cruising these waters on a regular basis. On 4/29/08, Captains Greg and Susan Han reported that ALL vessels passing through the Creighton Narrows section of the Georgia ICW (Statute Mile 641) were being stopped for inspection. EVERYONE had better be sure ALL their papers and safety equipment are in good order and up to snuff!

To check out the FULL story, go to http://www.CruisersNet.net

and peruse the navigational buttons along the left side of our home page. Locate the "Cruising News From" section, and then click on the "Georgia" button/link. For the moment, the string of postings in question sits atop the page, though that
will change as new entries are received.

II. Important Update on Eastern Florida/ICW Closure at Jacksonville Beach (Statute Mile 748)

Last week, while I was in Western Florida on a speaking tour, with my worthy, "Cruising the Florida Keys" co-author, Morgan Stinemetz, I received information about the closure of the Eastern Florida ICW at Jacksonville Beach, during daylight hours, except for a single mid-day hour. I sat right down with my laptop in the middle of Punta Gorda's Isles Yacht Club and sent out an immediate alert to this list. Thank goodness IYC has free Wi-Fi throughout their sumptuous club facilities. To say the very least, this info caused quite a stir in the cruising community, and has disrupted more than a few cruising plans.

Now, thanks to one of the Nets' most faithful correspondents, Captain Alan Loyd, plus Captains Neil and Pixie Shaw, we learn that the restrictive closure hours ARE NOT IN EFFECT WEEKENDS! Well, at least that's some relief.

Check out both Captain Alan's and the Shaw's notes by going to http://www.CruisersNet.net [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001at41HcHDXXAdtHXyjNWwjkvpeILp7XG6VccPh6qG9HkvsPC5s87xbjpSl6BTtsDiJEFHptz5naLQwAf6ig_etEahf1AFfHBz1-hvGwT1n44yAS5-RXGaLA==]

Once you are on our home page, peruse the navigational buttons along the left side of the window. Locate the "Cruising News From" section, and then click on the "Eastern Florida" button/link. For the moment, the posting in question is second from the top of the "Eastern Florida" page, though that will change as new entries are received.
