Dometic Marine Sponsors Safe Harbor Boys Home
Local boys home received 12 new Cruisair Carry-On portable air conditioning units

Dometic Environmental Corporation, the leader in engineering technology for marine air conditioning for pleasure boats, has become a corporate sponsor of Safe Harbor Boys Home in Jacksonville, Fla.
Safe Harbor Boys Home is a program designed for at-risk teenage boys that provides a safe alternative home environment aboard boats. Through the program, the boys receive seamanship training, academic lessons and vocational apprenticeship opportunities. Safe Harbor also offers instruction in basic life skills including driver’s education; career services such as job-hunting and interview training; financial management and fiscal responsibility; as well as housekeeping and nutrition.
To commence the relationship, Dometic has donated 12 Cruisair Carry-On portable air conditioning units for the boats that serve as living quarters for the program residents. The 7,000-BTU air conditioning systems install easily over a hatchtop and are ideal for boats that are too small for installed seawater-cooled air conditioning units. “Dometic has a long history of giving back to the community and we are proud to include Safe Harbor Boys Home in this tradition,” said Frank Marciano, president of Dometic Environmental Corporation.
“This program provides young boys the opportunity and the means to create for themselves better, safer lives and we’re happy to be a part of that.” “Safe Harbor is deeply indebted to Dometic for this generous donation,” said Robbie W. Smith, executive director for Safe Harbor Boys Home. “It will enable us to accept more boys year-round, even in the heat of summer. This would not be possible otherwise, since the boys’ dormitories are on individual boats. If we cannot take them, we cannot help them, so this donation is the first step in changing the lives of these young boys.”
